Near the start of Burlesque, Cher’s character tells one of the dancers: “If you fall off the stage, leg extended, boobs out.”
In other words, even if you fumble, at least look fabulous — advice that the film’s director and stars seem to have taken to deliver an entertaining musical extravaganza.
Ali (Christina Aguilera, in her feature film debut) arrives in Los Angeles from a small town in Iowa, looking for fame. There, she wanders inside The Burlesque Lounge where she stands mesmerized, eyes wide, mouth agape, like a child marvelling at a Christmas tree (except in this case, the tree is replaced by equally sparkly but near-nude, lip-synching dancers).
